They bite on conspiracies and dumb ideas that the most basic logic would toss out. And they show up in public meetings and insist that something that has worked in a dozen other communities will cause catastrophe here, and act like yelling louder about it will make them right, by magic.

You’re right. People across the board are capable of blinding gaps in logic, panic, massive blind spots and general foolishness. Psychologists tell us that the majority of people consistently over-estimate their capability and fail to see a lot of our limitations.
