OK, this week's First Principle has been a little heavy. People who work on anti racism and implicit bias training are quick to tell us that dismantling the assumptions that we all cut our teeth on is a long-term project. And that everyone will mess up repeatedly (I can attest to that.)
So we're not going to be perfect, and we can't change who we are overnight. And still have obligation to try to help, to do the best we can
So what do I do with this?
1) Work on actively listening to people whose lived experiences are different than yours. If you don't have people in your daily life with whom you can talk, open up your phone and look for content creators who are talking about their experience and perceptions. But make sure you listen to more than one - people who have been historically disadvantaged have imbibed the same information and assumptions as the rest of us, and are on their own journey to make sense of and undo it.
