In fact, men’s labor force participation has been steadily declining since the 1970s, and workers are experiencing greater labor market precarity – that is, shorter job spells, greater job insecurity and more long-term unemployment.

One of the messages that most of us absorbed during our Industrial Era upbringing was the idea that men were “supposed” to be the family breadwinners — that the ideal family economic structure was a single job and a single worker generating family’s income. But as with so much of what we were taught in the process of acculturating into the Industrial Era, that assumptions fits increasingly less well with our Fusion Era reality.
