Urban planning, city management and the like have an ongoing problem with elitism. Because the people who do this work often have above-average levels of public education, we tend to misunderstand some of the most mundane factors that shape life for many of our residents. Try as we might to develop our understanding and empathy, we just don’t always have the same lived experience.
