My son and his partner may never get married. And they may never have children.

I am married for more than 30 years. And I have children.

But I don't blame them for being hesitant, and maybe saying no.

At all.

Because they're living in a transition into a future that looks very little like the past.

And we all have done nothing to help them move into that future.

Both my son and his partner grew up in classic nuclear families. Went to Catholic high schools. Conventional suburban neighborhoods. Both oldest children, responsible, good students. American Dream material.
