The Wise Fool: Holy Crud We Got Busy Edition
New tools for helping you help the places you care about
Hi, y’all.
After the ugh of 2020, I decided to hit 2021 like this:
From the incomparable barrygott.com. Check ‘em out.
Except that I don’t play the guitar. Or the flamethrower.
I do have a truckload (heh) of Big News for you all. First:
The Local Economy Revolution Has Arrived! (and you can buy it!)
In 2013, I published my first book, The Local Economy Revolution: What’s Changed and How You Can Help. But after seven tumultuous years of social and cultural and everything else change, I felt like that book had become dated.
I wanted to say more about how people could practically apply that book’s insights to their communities, and I especially wanted to dig more into the power of diverse voices and perspectives in unlocking our Industrial Era paradigms (remember that word?) and helping us all find new solutions. After several years of working with innovators who spanned races, economic levels, ages and more, I have become convinced that deep inclusion is the best single way to get out of our old ruts.
This new version has lots of insight into how we can do that, as well as a lot of other Good Ideas that will help you make the place you care about future-ready.
The Local Economy Revolution Has Arrived hits the streets and the digitals on February 10. While you wait, you can sign up right here to receive a special Insider Discount Code. I’m also giving a bundle of all of my books to the first five purchasers.
And if you send me a brief review of the 2013 version of the book, I’ll send you the new one for free!
Finally, because I’m hep to the jive or something, there’s even a video trailer for the new book. Catch it here.
New Expanded Newsletter offerings via Substack!
You eagle-eyed types might have noticed that this newsletter came from a different platform than past ones. I’ve joined people like Dan Rather and Zeynep Tufekci (look her up, she’s a future of democracy wizard) on Substack, a new newsletter-based platform that allows better opportunities for engaging with your audience than I’ve ever had.
As a pre-Substack Wise Fool subscriber, you’re automatically moved over to the free version. You’ll get the monthly (ish) newsletter, as well as an occasional blog article or announcement.
But if you want more, I’ve got a great opportunity for you! Substack provides for both free and paid subscriptions, so I am launching a new subscription level with a whole range of benefits.
For less than the cost of one fast food lunch per month, subscribers will get:
A private channel for commenting on posts and discussing ideas with me and others (without having to worry that your boss or your weird aunt will see it on Facebook)
A weekly digest of overlooked news about future-ready places and people,
A monthly Ask Me Anything session,
Special discounts on books, workbooks, and other products, and
A new quarterly publication called AccelerateUs, with more in-depth stories, more unique perspectives from voices you might not hear otherwise, and valuable resources to help you take care of the place you care about.
If you’re interested in expanding your ability to make your community future-ready, you can upgrade your subscription at https://wiseeconomy.substack.com
More to Come in ‘21
(No one has done that yet, have they? No? Darn it.)
Five years ago, I put the Wise Economy Workshop on a back burner. I was looking for new answers to the challenges that faced the communities that I care about, and I wasn’t finding enough of them in the work I had done for the previous 20 years.
In those five years, I ran a civic tech magazine, co-founded a company for experiential learning through business, helped reposition three nonprofits, and supported the launch of the first Virtual SuperHub for young Black and brown founders and small business owners.
And I learned a ton. Often the hard way, but I learned a ton.
All that time, my intent was to take what I learned and bring it back to the Wise Economy platform, where I hoped that I could write and speak and create enough good work to help communities across the globe develop the resilience and strength that they would need for their people to thrive in the coming era.
This year marks the return to that focus. In addition to the book and the Substack opportunities that I’ve talked about here, I’ll be producing
New books
New videos
New talks
New training programs
New Short Shots
New workbooks and ways to apply these ideas to your community
And more.
I never really left, but I’m thrilled to be back. It’s an amazing time to be doing this work, and we’re in the midst of amazing opportunities to create places that people love, where people from diverse walks of life can thrive. And our ability to do this together has never been stronger.
So I hope you will come along with me on this grand adventure, in whatever way you like.
Thanks. Let’s go get ‘em!
